NFPA 1127: Code for High Power Rocketry applies to the design, construction, limitation of propellant mass and power, and reliability of high power rocket motors and motor components, for use by a certified user for education, recreation, and sporting competition. The Code also includes a chapter on prohibited activities.
Update to the 2013 edition to stay on top of safety improvements that include:
- Definitions for key terms have been amended to be consistent with federal regulatory requirements.
- Definitions for Model Rocket Motor and High Power Rocket Motor were revised to align with NFPA 1125: Code for Manufacture of Model
- Rocket and High Power Rocket Motors and to clearly delineate between the two types of motors.
- New provisions regarding reloadable high power rocket motors and what limits exist on customer modification to the manufactured and certified motor.
- New requirements for launches of 3 or more high power rockets simultaneously address issues for range safety both for the launch site as well as to the spectators.
